With the 15th June being Beer Day Britain, we’ve pulled together some facts about British beer, that you might find interesting. So without further ado, here are 7 British beer related facts…

  1. The earliest mention of beer being brewed in England (from imported hops) was in 1412; made by a German alewife in Colchester.
  2. Britain’s oldest brewer is Shepherd Neame.
  3. In 2021 Carling was the best selling lager.
  4. At 67.5%, Brewmeister’s Snake Venom is said to be Britain’s strongest beer.
  5. In 2021, 4.6 billion litres of beer were sold in the UK.
  6. There are 46.8k pubs in the UK.
  7. The earliest building known to have stood on the site of Downing Street was the Axe brewery – owned by the Abbey of Abingdon in the Middle Ages.
